PACKING TIPS WHEN MOVING HOUSE
Below some helpful hints that will prevent damage when you are packaging your household items.
- Stand glasses and cups upright in carton, stand plates on their edge.
- Do not overfill cartons or use cartons with no lids.
- The carton top should be flat, not sunken or raised.
- Label cartons with their contents, your last name and the room they are from.
- Label cartons with the term T.W.U (this way up) if they contain food, liquids or other items that must remain upright.
- Slip pictures, paintings and mirrors into flattened cartons and tape along the edges.
- The contents of drawers may remain with the exception of liquids, breakables and any heavy items that may cause damage to the drawer during transit.
- Cupboard contents must be removed and packaged.
- Use scrunched up paper or linen as padding when packing china, crockery, glassware or breakables.
- Do not use tape across furniture surfaces as when removed it may damage the finish.
- Pack heavier items such as books into small cartons and lighter items suck as linen into large cartons.
- Create a priority carton for items such as remotes, leads, bed legs, and bolts.
- Use bedding or pillows for packing along with electronic components such as stereos or computers.
- Small pot plants should be packed into an open top carton for the movers to see.
- Do not pack any paints, petrol, oils, aerosols, lighters, matches, ammunition or any other hazardous or flammable items.
- Put aside any personal papers, passports and medication you may need prior to packing.
- Remove and pack the glass plate from the microwave oven.
- Freezers can be moved with the contents inside however fridges would need to be emptied, a chilly bin is ideal for this purpose.
